OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The FMUA Student Levy supports music-based initiatives that enhance student life, artistic engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and educational opportunities across the University of Toronto. Established by student referendum in March 2026, the Levy supports campus-wide artist grants, guest lectures and workshops, outreach performances, music equipment access, student-led creative projects, and initiatives that increase the visibility and accessibility of music across the University community.

The Levy also supports the Faculty of Music Library's Music Equipment Program, expanding student access to professional-quality recording, performance, and creative technology resources. Through the library-administered equipment lending program, students can borrow microphones, audio interfaces, portable recording systems, cameras, and other equipment that supports artistic, educational, and interdisciplinary projects across the University of Toronto. Equipment can be reserved through the Faculty of Music Equipment Booking Portal.

The Levy further supports promotional, marketing, and outreach initiatives that increase the visibility of Faculty of Music performances, educational opportunities, student projects, and levy-funded programs across the University of Toronto. Through campus-wide advertising campaigns, digital signage, social media promotion, print materials, branding initiatives, and strategic communications, the Levy helps connect students with concerts, workshops, masterclasses, guest lectures, and creative opportunities they may not otherwise encounter. These efforts are intended to expand participation beyond the Faculty of Music, strengthen audience engagement, increase awareness of music and arts programming, and foster a more vibrant and accessible musical culture throughout the University community.

The Levy is administered by the Faculty of Music Undergraduate Association (FMUA), with oversight from the FMUA Board of Directors and Student Levy Project Coordinator. Funding is intended to increase access to music and the arts, encourage collaboration across the University, and create meaningful educational and artistic opportunities for students.
