Executive Team

  • The President is the leader of the FMUA and represents the entire undergraduate music body in meetings with the Faculty of Music, the Vice-Provost, and other official university affairs. Other responsibilities include:

    • Spearheading various FMUA committees and initiatives (e.g. Benefit Concert, Elections, etc.);

    • Writing and delivering bi-weekly reports for the Faculty of Music Executive Council and Faculty Council Meetings;

    • Meeting with the Office of the Vice-Provost and other Association Presidents monthly during St. George Round Table meetings;

    • Organizing, scheduling, and running monthly FMUA Board of Directors meetings;

    • Overseeing the implementation of all FMUA initiatives;

    • Assisting with management of social media and newsletters;

    • And other responsibilities as needed.

  • The Vice-President manages internal affairs such as bookkeeping and finance management. Other responsibilities include:

    • Chairing the Budget and Bursaries & Grants Committees;

    • Creating the proposed yearly FMUA budget;

    • Managing the FMUA's annual financial audit;

    • Managing employee payments, reimbursement, invoices, and other financial matters for the FMUA;

    • Reviewing FMUA bursary applications.

  • The Vice-President External acts as a liaison between the FMUA and other student groups on campus. Other responsibilities include:

    • Serving as the Music Director on the University of Toronto Students' Union;

    • Fulfilling the UTSU Music Director responsibilities (attending monthly UTSU Board of Director meetings, sitting on UTSU committees, voicing the needs, demands and opinions of music students on a campus wide level etc.);

    • Connecting with other clubs and unions to organize and lead joint events;

    • Sitting on FMUA Election and Referenda committee;

    • Assisting FMUA directors in other ways as needed.

  • The Vice-President Academic provides support in all academic areas by being the bridge between undergraduate students and the faculty. Other responsibilities include:

    • Organizing and overseeing the Summer Music Mentors Program;

    • Running the FMUA Student Support Tutoring Program (SSP) which includes hiring the Co-Coordinator and Tutors positions;

    • Assists in facilitating the communication line between faculty and students by staying up to date on any potential academic-related comments/questions/concerns;

    • Overseeing the program directors' events alongside the president and providing support when necessary.

  • The Vice-President Communications is the bridge between the various moving parts at the Faculty of Music. Other responsibilities include:

    • Assembling the newsletter and sending it out monthly (and sometimes bi-monthly!);

    • Chairing the Social Media Committee and overseeing the FMUA's social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and more;

    • Maintaining the FMUA website and making sure that all of the information is up to date;

    • Coordinating Office Hours so program directors can answer students' questions;

    • Taking minutes during meetings and uploading them to the FMUA website;

    • Promote various events happening at the Faculty of Music and help faculty and staff reach students.

  • The Vice-President Student Life is in charge of social events for the Faculty of Music, and providing the best possible university experience for students at the Faculty of Music. Other responsibilities include:

    • Ordering and distributing Apparel;

    • Planning and executing the Semi-Formal dance;

    • Acting as the liaison with Photography studios to organize Graduation Photos;

    • Planning and executing the Graduation Event;

    • And other Student Life activities as required!

 
 

Board of Directors

  • Positions available in the Comprehensive, History/Culture, Jazz, Opera, Music Education, Performance, and Theory/Composition streams; alongside additional representatives for First-Year Classical & First-Year Jazz students.

    Program Directors represent the undergraduate student voice in their respective programs. Responsibilities include the following:

    • Running workshops and other events relevant to their program interests (e.g. Grad School information sessions, Music and Health workshops, etc.) and collaborating with other directors as needed;

    • Attending monthly FMUA Board of Directors meetings to debrief;

    • Taking part in various FMUA Committees (e.g. Grants Cmte, Elections Cmte, etc.) on a voluntary basis;

    • Representing all undergraduate students in various Faculty of Music Committees (e.g. ARAO, Teaching & Learning Cmte, Program Divisional Meetings, etc.).

  • The Equity and Accessibility Director ensures that the student voice is heard when it comes to issues of inaccessibility and discrimination within the Faculty of Music. The E&A Director also works closely with the Faculty of Music Anti-Racism Alliance, and sits on the Faculty of Music's Anti-Racism Anti-Oppression Committee. The E&A Director also runs workshops and initiatives highlighting marginalized composers, musicians, and musical works!

  • Commuter Directors run commuter-friendly events and advocate for the needs of commuter students, such as free brunch!

  • The two Social Activity Directors run many social activities throughout the year, including monthly themed events!

  • Sports Directors run events related to health and well-being. They organize various sporting events, such as intramurals, and have also run workshops on mindfulness, meditation, and more!
