September Newsletter

Hello students!

Welcome back to another school year at the Faculty of Music! We have a lot of fun and helpful things coming up, so stay tuned! For the month of September, we don’t have a newsletter yet, but going forward for our monthly newsletters, expect more colours and pictures! Enough chit chat, here are some important messages from other members of the FMUA to you all.

**Key words have been bolded, so you can probably skim**

FOMO

From August 25-29, FOMO welcomed the new incoming class of 2029 through exciting activities such as Ripley’s Aquarium, ROM, Canada’s Wonderland, Yankee Lady Boat Cruise, and the Welcome Concert. Meals included Chipotle, cheesesteaks, pizza, and an ice cream bar! It was a blast and we hope attendees enjoyed their week. Shoutout to Group H for getting zero ISpy challenges!

Intramurals

If you have indicated interest in intramurals, please sign up for its corresponding Music Mahler team on the IMLeagues app. Refer to the last Commissioners email.

Music Cafe

The cafe opened this week on Monday, September 8th and we’ve loved seeing everyone ordering their drinks and chatting around. With new volunteers, we may have a bit of a slow start, but by the end of the month we'll be as speedy as ever! Unfortunately, the student discount has been reduced to 40% due to rent costs. But watch out for a complaint form to push UofT to remove our rent!! Thank you for the support so far :D

SSP (tutoring)

In case you haven’t seen the FMUA’s newest Instagram post, SSP officially started on Wednesday for the fall semester. Subjects tutored are History, Skills, and Theory. Below is the schedule:

Here is a note from your composition director, Anthony! Upcoming Composition Events:

The first of four Student Composers’ Concerts this school year will be on Tuesday, October 14, 7:30pm at Walter Hall. Mark your calendars and support your peers! If you are in the composition program and would like to present your piece at this concert, you have until September 26 to submit your proposal to scc.music@utoronto.ca.

In the weekly Composer’s Forum meetings this month, we will be getting to know more about our new and returning graduate composition colleagues through their presentations. Come by, say hi, and support their work!

I (Anthony Gunadi, your FMUA Composition Director) would like to organize casual composition meetups open to everyone where you can chat about your favourite pieces, debate composition topics, ask questions, etc. If this sounds like something that interests you, please fill out this google form: https://forms.gle/Sr93jgPYMLH1BJqW8

Follow @uoftcomposer on Instagram to be updated on U of T Composition news if you haven’t already!
